World map wall collage and travel-inspired bedroom

Hi friends!

When I started thinking about decorating our new home, I wanted the decor to truly represent who we are. I wanted unique and whimsical art that really made a statement.

When my hubs and I first started dating, I remember this giant world map where his mom kept track of their travels with little stickers. It used to stir up my wanderlust and want to fill my own map with little dots. When I found a big blue map at a flea market, I knew I wanted to do something cool with it and start documenting our own travels.

I decided to deconstruct it by cutting out the continents and mod podging them to blank canvas our filling frames with the pieces. I arranged frames until I was happy with the layout and traced the frames. I tried to get as much land as possible, and even used tiny frames for the Hawaiian Islands and Tahiti. Don't leave out any destination you might one day explore! I also included some photographs of some of my travels. My eventual goal is to expand the collage with more photographs and souvenirs.

I first mod podged the edges of the canvas with bluish scrapbook paper and mod podged the map pieces on top. To make it even more unique, I decided to wrap the collage around a corner in my guest bedroom. I moved a few things when I started to arrange them, and I was super excited about the way it turned out!

Finish off the room with stacked suitcases, postcard pillow and fun accessories to finish out the travel-inspired look.

A look at the other side of the room

Ahhhh...now I can take a nap and dream about travelling the world! One day I'll have that wall full...I might need a new room! :)

Love,

Kayli

  1. That's a great idea, to use one map to create a few different pieces, and therefore a really cohesive gallery wall.
    Great job !
