Home

Hey, stranger! It's been a while!

As you've probably noticed, I've taken a much-needed hiatus from blogging to get settled into my new town. And let's just say, it's been fast and furious since. I've since taken on two jobs, and am slowly finding the balance to make it all happen.

I won't say it's been the easiest transition, but I'm learning to trust my instincts, follow my heart and prioritize what's important in my life. And when I thought about it, I missed writing, blogging and photographing life so much. When I first started this blogging journey, I loved sharing things that inspired me, what I had been working on in my home studio and playful musings about life. Somewhere in there, I felt pressured to post the best of the best to gain pins, stats, followers and features. It started to feel more like a job and less like a pure form of expression, and sharing with thoughtful sweet readers (like you!)

So, I've decided to revive the blog and go back to basics. My posts may not be frequent, but they will be real. They won't be perfect, but they'll be from the heart. They might run the gamut and be completely random, but that's just me.

Here are a few vignettes in my new little apartment in San Marcos, Texas. I'm learning to love this little river town and all its quirks. I'm learning to live on less, but infuse everyday life with simple things that make it more beautiful.

Gallery wall in the living room. Peacock painting, map and one pair of footprints made by me. :)

A colorful dreamcatcher I painted this afternoon.

My foyer greets us daily with a great reminder.

Succulents in mismatched glass I scored at a yard sale for 50 cents each. Love me a good bargain!

On River Time. One of the first hand-stitched  projects I made for our new locale.

So, those of you who have visited before, thanks for coming back. I'm looking forward to making creativity a priority and sharing it with you.

xoxo,

Kayli

Hello lovely readers!

I am excited to be a part of a fantastic giveaway that supports an AWESOME cause that's near and dear to my heart with my fellow blogging friend Kerry over at KerryingOn.

Dreamcatcher quote printable

Dreamcatcher Dream Quote Printable. Click here to download.
Hey friends! Enjoy this 8x10 printable of a dreamcatcher I made and will be selling at craft shows this summer. That quote is so suitable to my life right now, as I'm trying my best to follow those dreams and start a new chapter! These pretties will be in my Etsy shop soon:

Gosh, if my posting history lately is any indication of my crazy life lately, it is right on target! But I'm happy to say our house has a buyer and we are on our way to moving west. And, I sold it myself without a realtor, for our asking price. I pretty much feel like a bad ass. Derek is loving his new job, and I can't wait to get there with him. I've been trying to pack up our little life and shed what's not neccessary. It is becoming less scary and more exciting. It's a process!

I'm still doing some soul searching as to my future profession. I am mostly excited to get to Austin and be surrounded by like-minded, creative people. It's what I'm lacking now, and I think being surrounded by inspiring artists will encourage me to follow my inner voice.

Bear with me, as I'm continuing to soul search and figure out the future path of my blogging endeavor. Spring feels like a great time to make changes, so I look forward to what's in store.

xoxo,

Kayli

East Texas in Spring

Today I took a break to photograph the gorgeous Tulip Trees on campus. We are surrounded by such beauty and so often take it for granted. These are my absolute favorites, and I've only seen them in East Texas. The blooms are as big as 8 inches across and are so delicate and smell divine. They are truly the "first blush" of Spring, and a reminder of rebirth and better things to come.

Taking in my last few weeks here and appreciating all the little things I'll miss when I'm gone....Happy hours in dive bars that are like your "Cheers", going to businesses where every owner knows you by name, the tall pine trees and the slow-pace. Small town America is not all bad. Its a place frozen in time, and though I miss some things about a bigger city...the culture, the experiences...there sure is something about a quaint little town like Nacogdoches. Its bittersweet.

Simple red-wine vinaigrette

Hi friends!

I'm on day two of a healthy eating cleanse...which is progress for a girl who loves to eat! Today, I thought I'd share my go-to salad dressing that really makes me look forward to eating all those pretty greens.

This is a recipe my best friend shared with me in high school and has been one of my favorites since. I'm a very picky salad dressing eater, so this one has stood the test of time. Tangy, garlicky and delicious. Enjoy!

Simple red-wine vinaigrette

1/2 c. red wine vinegar
1/2 c. vegetable oil
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar or Splenda
4 gloves garlic, crushed but left whole

In a mason jar, mix ingredients in order of list. Shake well and pour on your favorite salad. Refrigerate for up to three weeks.

Yum...I'm enjoying that salad above as we speak. Love those yellow cherry tomatoes too.

Do you have a secret ingredient that makes healthy eating simpler?

Stitch therapy- Hand-stitched embroidery hoops

Hi dear friends. Today, my love moved across the state to begin his new job. This will be the longest we've been apart...ever. Boo! So, I've thrown myself into making new things for the arts & crafts shows I'm planning to sell at this summer. Nothing like a little old hand-stitched embroidery to take your mind off some things! This was my first shot at it, and it's surprisingly therapuetic.

In my first project, I used the Bible verse from our wedding (Ruth 1:16) which is so apropos to our wanderlust style. Since we don't know where we'll be living, I threw in a cute little travel trailer for some wishful thinking.

I also stitched a little reminder to keep me company for the next month or so. I love the way it looks with the doily! Shappy chic and so my style.

Although I'll miss my main man, I'm {secretly} excited to get some time alone to focus on my next steps and do some soul searching. Plus, making a lot of cute things to pass the time won't be so bad either!

What is your favorite craft to make when you want to relieve stress?

{Selling my} Home Tour

Hi friends! I'm taking a little blogging break to focus on my last days in Nacogdoches and sell our CUTE little home! If you've been following me for a while, you know that we bought our first home under the Texas pines and spend the last year making it pretty. Now because of a job change for D, we are making the move across Texas which means selling our first place. It's bittersweet, but I'm sure that someone new will be so happy here, too. Take a look:

If anyone in the Nacogdoches area is looking for a new place to call home, email me at kaylihead@gmail.com or see the listing here. For the rest of my friends, prayers please as we move on to our next adventure!
